Eight Universities to Host Ethiopian Summer Teacher Training Program
The Ethiopian summer teacher training program is resuming this year. This program will help thousands of teachers advance from a Diploma to a First Degree. This program is offered to enable teachers to enhance their qualifications. There are currently many teachers who have a diploma. The aim of the Ethiopian summer teacher training program is to have them reach a first degree.
This program was actually done and run in previous years, but it was suspended due to quality issues. Now the Ministry of Education is reintroducing it and doing its homework to ensure it’s done correctly. There are several issues the Ministry of Education must address before any teacher enters a classroom for this training. This is what they have on their checklist.
- Creating a training system aligned with the new education system.
- Creating operational documents that enable the program to run smoothly at launch.
- Hiring and deploying trainers that are capable of providing the training.
Eight universities have been selected as host institutions for the Ethiopian summer teacher training program. Based on what’s been announced so far, these include:
- Bahir Dar University
- Hawassa University
- Mekelle University
