Amhara Regional Education Bureau Opens Boarding School Registration
If you’re a student in the Amhara Region hoping to attend a boarding school this year. The Amhara Regional Education Bureau has just announced a call for registration for the 2019 academic year (Ethiopian Calendar). There are specific requirements you’ll need to meet.
The Amhara Regional Education Bureau listed several schools preparing to welcome new students. These include:
- Yihune Woldu Boarding School in Dessie
- Honorable Dr. Haddis Alemayehu Boarding School in Debre Markos
- The newly built boarding school in Debre Tabor
- The newly built boarding school in Sekota
All of these schools are currently making preparations to admit and teach new students for the coming academic year. Two of them are brand new, which is exciting for families in Debre Tabor and Sekota who haven’t had a local boarding school option before.
This isn’t open to just anyone. The Amhara Regional Education Bureau is calling specifically on students who:
- Studied in either public or private schools within the Amhara Region
- Took the regional exam
- Meet the score requirements listed below
So if you studied outside the region, or you haven’t taken the regional exam, this particular registration window won’t apply to you.
Score Requirements for 8th-Grade Regional Exam
- Female students: 80% average score
- Male students: 82% average score
Score Requirements for 7th and 8th-Grade Transcript
- Female students: 83% average score
- Male students: 85% average score
You’ll need to meet both the exam score and the transcript average to qualify.
Registration Period and Location
Registrations are open from August 6 to August 15, 2018 (Ethiopian calendar). You don’t need to travel to the boarding schools themselves for registration. Registration is open at all district and city administration education offices across the Amhara Region. So head to your local education office to get the process started.
Entrance Exam Details
Meeting the score requirements and registering isn’t the final step. There’s also an entrance exam to take. The entrance exam will be given on August 25, 2018 (Ethiopian calendar), and it’ll take place in the main cities of each zone. So once you’ve registered, keep that date free and find out exactly where in your zone the exam will be held.
