Five Ethiopian Students Injured by Gunmen in Amhara Region

Five Ethiopian students were injured by gunmen in an incident in the Amhara region this week. The 12th grade students were returning after taking the 12th grade exit exam.

This year’s Ethiopian Grade 12 national exam began on Sene 23/2018 E.C. (June 30, 2026). It will go on till Hamle 16/2018 E.C/, July 23, 2026 G.C. The students, who came under attack, were returning after having taken the exam at Debre Markos university. Their vehicle came under attack in Bibugn woreda, Shime Abo Kebele. The kebele is located in the East Gojjam zone of the Amhara region. Unknown attackers opened fire at the students’ vehicle. Five students were seriously injured. According to the district administration, the injured students are receiving medical care at the Bibugn Hospital. Bibugn woreda administrator accused “Fano’ fighters of having carried out the attack on the students. For over two years, Fano militias have been fighting the regional and federal security forces in the Amhara region. Fano groups based in the Gojjam zone denied the attack on the students. They blamed the security forces for the attack.
