Fourth Round Schedule Announced for 12th-Grade National Exams
Good news for the students who have been waiting for Exam dates. The fourth round of the 12th-grade national exams was announced. And it also covers paper-based tests for students in the Tigray National Regional State.
This is a significant update for anyone who’s a student, parent, or teacher looking to stay up to date with this year’s testing schedule. 12th-grade national exams for the academic year 2018 (Ethiopian calendar) will be conducted online and paper-based.
The Educational Measurement and Evaluation Service (EAES) is running this year’s exams mostly online. This is the strategy for the majority of areas and city administrations countrywide.
Online testing began on July 6, 2018 (Ethiopian calendar). Most of the students have already appeared in the exams using this digital system. But not all students can be in the online model.

Online exams work well for the majority of students. However, there is a need for other groups to find an alternative, and that is where paper-based testing comes in.
Below, students will appear in paper-based exams.
- Students from the Natural Sciences.
- Students of social sciences
- Students from the old system of education.
- Students in the Tigray Region who have not taken their online exams yet in the first 6 rounds, for various reasons
These paper-based exams are not happening all at once. They are divided into four rounds, which take place at different locations and dates.
The fourth phase of the 12th-grade national exams will take place at two universities in the Tigray region:
- Mekelle University
- Aksum University
The exam dates are from 22nd to 24th July 2018 (Ethiopian Calendar). According to the schedule, both natural science and social science students will appear for their exams on paper during this round. So if you are based in Tigray or fall into either category, mark these dates.
For students in Tigray who missed earlier chances to test online, this fourth round is a real opportunity. It gives you a set time and place to finally complete your 12th-grade national exams without falling further behind.
Moreover, if you are a teacher in Ethiopia, the Ministry of Education of Ethiopia has introduced a new framework for summer teacher training programs. In a letter dated November 6, 2018 (Ethiopian Calendar), the Ethiopian Ministry told all universities that the old summer teacher training programs would be discontinued.
