Opportunity for Grade 6 and 8 Students in Ethiopia

If your child has recently completed grade 6 or grade 8 and performed well on the city-wide exams. There is a significant opportunity for your child to excel. The Addis Ababa City Administration Education Bureau has invited the best grade 6 and 8 students in Ethiopia to apply for a position in two renowned schools.

So, what does this mean, who is eligible, and what to do next?

Not all students are eligible for this opportunity. It is intended for grade 6 and grade 8 students in Ethiopia who did well.

To qualify, a student needs to have:

Excelled in Amharic and Afaan Oromo languages during grade 6 or grade 8
Studied within the Addis Ababa City Administration
Moved on to grade 7 or grade 9 for the 2019 academic year (Ethiopian calendar)

Boys and girls are applying to different schools. Two schools are participating in this enrollment round.

Gelan Boys Junior and Senior High School is for boys. Your son, who did well in Amharic and Afaan Oromo, will be considered for a place here if he enters grade 7 or 9.

Etege Menen Girls Junior and Senior High School is a school for girls. Same rules will also apply here. Good achievement in those two languages in grade 6 or 8 and a progression to grade 7 or 9.

These are highly competitive schools, as they are both well respected. The registration will be open from 13th to 17th July 2018 (Ethiopian Calendar). Mark the dates now and don’t wait until the last day.

Both schools have a common online registration system. All you need to do is choose the appropriate link depending on the gender.

Registering online is the first step. All applicants must also take an entrance examination, with the dates varying according to the grade of entry.
